Tacoba Brings Latin-Inspired Flavors + Coffee to Boone Drug on King Street

Tacoba Boone Drug King St

There’s a fresh new flavor in downtown Boone, and it’s already winning hearts. Tacoba, the newest addition inside the historic Boone Drug building on King Street, is serving up Latin-inspired eats and craft coffee in a cozy café-style atmosphere.

The vision comes from longtime Boone resident James Bance, who grew up in a Mexican restaurant family and has been perfecting his cooking skills for years. Inspired by the recipes of his mother and grandmother, James is bringing his love for Latin food to the High Country in a space that feels both fresh and familiar.

For me, it’s about creating a space where people can slow down, enjoy food made with care, and connect with one another,” James shared. “I’ve always loved cooking for family and friends, and Tacoba is just an extension of that — now it’s the Boone community sitting at the table.
— Owner, James Bance

Fresh + Flavorful Menu Highlights

Tacoba’s menu is built around bold flavors and fresh, high-quality ingredients. From tacos to hearty bowls and a breakfast special, there’s something for everyone—whether you’re a meat lover, vegetarian, vegan, or eating gluten-free. The offerings are focused but full of flavor, with breakfast items and coffee drinks rounding out a menu that celebrates Latin-inspired comfort food.

🌮 Tacos + Bowls
The tacos come loaded with bold flavors, while bowls are hearty and customizable. One favorite is the “Meat Sweats” Bowl, featuring tender, barbacoa-style beef that’s been slow-cooked until perfectly juicy and melt-in-your-mouth. Pair it with rice, beans, and fresh toppings for a satisfying meal.

🥑 Guacamole + Salsa
Don’t skip the sides—James makes a “life-changing” guacamole that’s a secret recipe he won’t share, no matter how hard you try. His fresh salsa is just as crave-worthy, the kind that keeps you dipping until the basket of chips is gone.

🥚 Breakfast at Tacoba
One standout morning option is the Tortilla Española – a la Mexicana. Picture a potato crust layered with eggs, onions, red and green bell peppers, cheese, and bacon, baked like a quiche, and topped with avocado crema and cilantro. It’s served with black beans and two warm tortillas, so you can make breakfast tacos if you’d like. There’s also a pork-free version for those who don’t eat bacon.

Coffee + More
Coffee lovers will feel right at home here. Tacoba sources beans locally from Local Lion, serving up Americanos, specialty lattes, and teas. The matcha lavender latte is already a crowd favorite—smooth, floral, and lightly sweetened. It’s the perfect pairing for a relaxed meal or a study session, making Tacoba a great spot for students to get work done downtown.

A Cozy Place to Gather (or Work)

Tacoba isn’t just a place to eat—it’s a space for community, where people can share delicious food, good conversation, and plenty of laughs. The atmosphere makes it just as perfect for a lingering lunch with friends as it is for students looking for a spot to study or get work done.

One of the highlights of the space is a vibrant mural by local artist Josh Johnston, whose talent is recognized all over Boone. Watching the piece come to life from start to finish was a treat—the color, detail, and energy he brought to the walls mirrors the spirit of Tacoba itself. The mural gives the café a signature personality and makes it a place that feels unique in Boone.

Why You’ll Love It

Since opening, Tacoba has already drawn in a loyal following (myself included—I’ve eaten there three times already!). The food is fresh, the coffee is top-notch, and the space makes you want to stay awhile.
